Wolverhampton Grammar School getting ready for their stimulating and energetic annual Coast2Coast challenge! Eleven Year 10 pupils will run together to cover the 170 miles, as part of a team relay in order to raise money for their local hospital. The National Walk and Bike to School Day scheduled for May 24th is already attracting thousands of participants. It has already exceeded the £6,000 target via a donations page on Just Giving. The school signed on and matched each of the 500 bills with a specific redemption date. The money will be used on the neonatal unit at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.
Tony French, who coordinates the Coast2Coast challenge, at Wolverhampton Grammar School This event has grown into a beloved tradition, held every year for the past 25 years. This year, the students have dedicated four months to training, preparing to start their journey from St Bees in Cumbria at approximately 07:00 BST. Their mission is to finish the grueling pilgrimage from one end of the trail to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire, in under 24 hours.
French said she was proud of the students’ commitment and hard work in the weeks leading up to the event.
“They are not only representing our school with pride but also continuing a remarkable tradition that spans 25 years,” – Tony French
It’s clear that support from family and staff has made all the difference in motivating the participants as they train for this physically taxing test. The collaborative event sets the stage for collaboration among the students. It deepens their bond with the community that they serve by being a source of much-needed funding for healthcare services.
Wolverhampton Grammar School has a long tradition of philanthropic and charitable giving with this Coast2Coast challenge continuing that tradition. Over the years, they have raised well over £100,000 for different worthy causes. This local initiative not only directly supports local hospitals through the delivery of PPE, but encourages students to take responsibility and serve their communities.
