Halle Bailey, the 25-year-old star and singer, has barely held on to get sole custody of her son, Halo. This announcement comes just as things heating up with her ex, rapper DDG. The couple welcomed the birth of their son this past December 2023. The romance soured, leading to their breakup in 2024 after nearly two years of dating. Recent events have raised concern for the child’s safety. This worry was exacerbated when not only Bailey, but baby Halo, came down with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
On April 30th, 2025, Bailey walked along New York City’s Upper West Side. Now, as this arduous process continued, she was frank about her concerns, particularly with regard to DDG’s influence on their son. She said that her serious illness and Halo’s serious illness made her feel very uncomfortable entrusting DDG with taking the out-of-state child. Bailey remarked that she was very worried about him bringing Halo along. She felt unsafe leaving a newborn baby with him in that state and was rightly agitated.
Bailey’s worries have recently been aggravated by a DDG incident that she says happened last March. As Bailey alleges, DDG unlawfully trespassed on her home during a visit. According to her reporting on the situation, the argument turned violent, leading to physical assault which she recorded on her Ring doorbell cam. In a subsequent statement explaining her ordeal, Bailey recalled that “At one moment, Darryl was dragging me by my hair. During that time, he slammed my face on the steering wheel hard enough for my tooth to chip. I started giving up on fighting back when I started hurting.
In the wake of this ordeal, a judge issued Bailey a temporary restraining order against DDG. This legal action is a statement on the seriousness of this matter, and Bailey’s willingness to go to these lengths to save her son. She expressed her desire for Halo to maintain a relationship with DDG’s family but emphasized that she wants him to be present and engaged in their child’s life rather than leaving Halo solely in the care of others.
Bailey further testified that she had asked for a fixed schedule for DDG to visit Halo, which he purportedly denied. She expressed frustration over the unpredictability of his demands regarding visitation, stating, “I never know when he is going to demand our son be in his Mother’s care and whether I will be subjected to his threats and abuse.”
Bailey remains optimistic that the matter will be resolved. The bickering hasn’t stopped her from fighting for Halo to have an equitable relationship with both parents. She made it clear that she would do whatever it takes to protect her son’s safety and well-being, first, last, and always.
Good Morning America has reached out to Bailey’s camp to get a response to the allegations. Thirdly, they contacted DDG’s leadership to advocate for changing the custody arrangement. For now, Bailey’s attention is quite understandably still centered on her son, and how to make sense of these difficult new realities.
