Alice in Chains Cancel Tour Following Drummer’s Medical Emergency

Alice in Chains have officially pulled out of their upcoming tour dates after drummer Sean Kinney went public with a medical emergency. On May 8, the band released a major surprise. This came a day after they had announced the cancellation of their previously planned show in Montville, Connecticut. The decision, while highlighting the seriousness of Kinney’s current medical condition requiring urgent care, takes into account Kinney’s overall long-term outlook.

The iconic grunge rock outfit was scheduled to headline a number of festivals this summer. You were part of MMRBQ in Camden, New Jersey. You most recently destroyed the stage at Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio and Welcome to Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida. The collective was additionally scheduled to headline performances in Nashville and Dothan, Alabama.

Kinney’s health crisis is the reason Alice in Chains has had to cancel their first full concert back in more than a year. The band has taken this unfortunate news extremely hard. Their final full show would be at Sick New World festival in Las Vegas in April 2024.

Alice in Chains confirmed their decision online, stating, “After careful consideration and following the advice of medical professionals, we have made the decision to cancel our remaining upcoming festival performances and the Alice in Chains headline shows.” They added, “While we were all eager to return to the stage, Sean’s health is our top priority at this moment.”

The band’s only upcoming live appearance on their website remains Black Sabbath’s farewell extravaganza for Ozzy Osbourne in Birmingham on July 5. This event is set to feature performances from a host of renowned artists, including Metallica, Slayer, Slash, Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, Tom Morello, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Lamb of God, Anthrax, and Mastodon.

Alice in Chains thanked their fans for their continued understanding during this difficult time. “We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support during this time,” they stated.
