Igloo Expands Cooler Recall Over Amputation and Crushing Hazards

Igloo Products Corporation has further increased its recall of the 90 Qt rolling cooler. We commend the decision to finally address egregious safety hazards, like fingertip amputation risks and crushing hazards. The recall, announced back in February 2023, now covers an additional 130,000 estimated coolers. In total, that brings the new number of affected units to nearly 150,000. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced this expansion officially on May 8, and consumer action is needed today.

The recall is a big deal for the entire U.S. market. It further includes an estimated 20,000 sold in Canada and approximately 5,900 in Mexico. The recalled product features a long-lasting carbonite body. You can catch it in the full color spectrum too, with colorful color-matched lids, starting with tactical gray body with deep slate stone lid, all white with all-white lid, all white with ash gray lid, and sapphire blue body with sapphire blue lid. Included in the recall is a dark slate blue body with a white lid.

Consumers bought these cooler for $80-$140 each. Each recalled cooler has a manufacturer date stamped in a circular pattern on the bottom. This design allows consumers to easily and immediately see which units are affected.

Igloo has repeatedly stressed its consumer safety bona fides throughout this process. The company stated, “With consumer safety as our top priority, we have voluntarily issued a recall on the 90QT Flip & Tow Rolling Cooler and have provided consumers with a proper course of action that includes a free replacement handle.”

The CPSC advises any consumer who is using one of these coolers to stop using it immediately. Contact Igloo for next steps and guidance on how to join. This means providing for a free replacement handle that eliminates the risk of laceration and other dangers posed by the product.
