Brian Austin Green recently reflected on the failed romances of his past on his podcast, Oldish. Green joined co-hosts such as Sharna Burgess. Collectively, they started to unpack some of the unhealthier dynamics of his previous relationships with Vanessa Marcil and Megan Fox. The actor, known for his role as David Silver on the original Beverly Hills, 90210, shared what he has gone through. He spoke about how these friendships deeply shaped his life.
Green dated actress Vanessa Marcil from the late 1990s to 2003. In 2002, as a family united in love and purpose, they welcomed their son Cassius into the world. He described their relationship as “extremely toxic.” Though it may have appeared warm and fuzzy on the outside, it was fraught with complexities. Reflecting on this tumultuous time, he mentioned, “I felt like I stepped outside of myself when having Cassius.” This unexpected career detour threw him into an existential crisis about who he was and who his friends were.
In comparison, Green has referred to his relationships with Megan Fox as “a real breath of fresh air.” Over the years, their initial romantic relationship developed into a highly cooperative working relationship, which continued even after their separation in 2020. During their ten years together, they begat three sons before separating amicably. And while he praised Marcil’s work in the past, he was clear with just how different this relationship would be.
Green stated, “Who am I at this point? There’s not one piece of me that’s left. My relationship with everyone around me has changed.” This feeling exemplifies the emotional burden that years of discrimination have had on him. He kept realizing how deeply both Marcil and Fox affected his life. Their influence informed his perspectives on love and family.
Aside from these musings, Green used the opportunity to touch on his ongoing romance with Sharna Burgess. The couple added to their family last year when they welcomed their son Zane Walker in June 2022. Their relationship blossomed even more when they paired up on Dancing With the Stars in 2021. Green describes this experience as a defining moment for him to find out his true calling in life.
“I think that was the first time in my life where I really felt like, ‘this is what I’m supposed to be doing.’” – Brian Austin Green
While figuring out what it means to be a father and constantly working on himself, Green reflects on the wounds and wisdom gained from his former partnerships. Through each experience, he hopes to help create a better world for himself and his kids.
