Prince Harry recently revealed that his relationship with his father, King Charles, is on the verge of collapse. Family ties remain strained. Reports suggest that the monarch has officially severed any communication with his successor. In a wide-ranging discussion at the 2023 Hacking Happiness Summit, Harry shared his feelings of alienation with us. He detailed the challenges he faces in getting his family to the UK due to safety issues.
Harry also emphasized that he is unable to return to his home country at this time. He doesn’t think it’s “possible” for him, Meghan Markle, and their children to travel that far. He named security, a personal fixation and the central element of his very public ordeal with Britain’s royal family, as a core grievance. The Duke of Sussex said he was “initially incredulous” about the 2020 judgment. This decision to cut his security followed soon after he and Meghan’s decision to step back from their duties as senior royals.
“When that decision happened, I couldn’t believe it. I actually couldn’t believe it.” – Prince Harry
After a long and protracted legal fight, Harry lost the appeal. The British government has continued to withdraw his police protection while he’s in the UK. This development has further contributed to his reluctance to return, as he stated, “I can’t see a world in which I’d be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point.”
The prince further expressed his desire for continued reconciliation with his family over strained relations remain. At the end of it all, he admitted that some family members will never forgive him for what he decided, like publishing his own memoir. He expressed a desire to mend fences, stating, “Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things. You know… I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”
In his remarks, Harry shared how meaningful advocacy from family members can be when a student’s life is turned upside down. He had wished that, even if they disagreed on politics, he would be able to rely on his own family for safety and protection. It’s all that’s remaining,” he said cryptically, indicating the psychological toll that his displacement has taken.
Adding a somber note to the discussion, Harry revealed concerns about his father’s health, stating, “I don’t know how much longer my father has.” This comment underscores the urgency Harry feels regarding potential reconciliation with King Charles and the rest of the royal family.
