On Wednesday, the entire Swedish royal family gathered together in a rare public appearance to officially celebrate King Carl Gustaf’s 79th birthday. Royal newlyweds Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip happily blessed the world with the first pictures of their baby daughter, Princess Ines. The extraordinary event played out in the magnificent inner courtyard of the Royal Palace. It was a deeply personal family moment despite the fact that they were accompanied by scores of members of the royal household, lord-in-waiting etc.
Princess Sofia looked contagious happy as she stepped on the balcony. Her two younger sons, Prince Julian and Prince Gabriel, excitedly waved to the cheering throng. Filial piety became a family affair, reminding everyone of the adamantine connections in royal bloodlines. King Carl Gustaf’s wife, Queen Silvia, as well as their daughters, Princess Madeleine and Crown Princess Victoria, participated in the festivities.
Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip welcomed Princess Ines on February 7, 2023, adding even more rosy delight to their happy family. The couple has enjoyed married life since June 13, 2015. From friends to partners The couple first met in 2010 over dinner with mutual friends. So when their engagement was publicly announced on June 27, 2014, people across Sweden were elated, and a wedding followed that many Swedes celebrated.
The long-planned royal balcony appearance celebrated the 50-year reign of King Carl Gustaf. It provided an unprecedented opportunity for the public to see the next generation of royals. Princess Madeleine and her husband Christopher O’Neill brought their three children—Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas, and Princess Adrienne. In addition, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, and their two children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar were present.

Her glowing smile may best represent the happiness of family togetherness celebrating this important milestone. That’s how the royal Swedish family celebrated King Carl Gustaf’s 70th birthday—with pizzazz. It just gave off a glow, a feeling of warmth and love between all the royal family members.
Princess Ines will be formally christened on June 13 at Drottningholm Palace Chapel. This unique date isn’t just a coincidence, though it’s the anniversary of her parents’ wedding. Ordinary Chaplain Michael Bjerkhagen and Chief Chaplain Bishop Johan Dalman will perform the baptism. This celebration doubles down on the royal traditions the family has insisted on upholding.
