Big Lots Set to Reopen 132 Stores in May Following Acquisition

Additionally, Big Lots plans on reopening 132 stores by May of 2024. This change is included in their broader plan to revitalize after being purchased by Variety Wholesalers. The parent company — which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September 2023 — completed the acquisition agreement in January. The entire reopening will occur in two very thrilling phases. Our first wave of stores opens May 1st, second wave May 15th.

The new generation of reincarnated Big Lots stores will feature an eclectic range of merchandise. You can shop family clothing, personal care, cleaning supplies, kitchen utensils, grocery staples and lots more from popular brands. This expansion will help these customers find quality, healthy goods at prices they can afford.

Strategic Revitalization Efforts

Big Lots’ revitalization efforts kicked off in April, with some of the first stores being reopened earlier in the year and enjoying customer acclaim. The company still owned 219 other stores that were then purchased by Variety Wholesalers during Variety Wholesalers’ own bankruptcy path.

Lisa Seigies, president and CEO of Variety Wholesalers, said they were excited by the upcoming store openings.

“We’re excited to bring an additional 132 Big Lots! locations back to life in May,” – Lisa Seigies, president and CEO of Variety Wholesalers.

This announcement further emphasizes the company’s dedication to reinvesting in local communities and restoring access to quality, affordable products.

Locations Across the United States

The reopening will stretch across five states, with important stops including Crystal River, Jacksonville, and Marianna, Florida. Besides Evans, Tybee Island, and Martinez, stores will open in Augusta, Brunswick and Buford in Georgia. Other states experiencing store reopenings are Alabama, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and North Carolina.

The strategic decision of locations is intended to provide the most convenient access and service to customers in all parts of the county. This replanting initiative is just one part of a larger, four-step revitalization plan. It is meant to help bolster Big Lots’ position in the highly competitive discount retail space.

Customer Commitment and Future Plans

As Value Wholesalers, they are committed to delivering greater value to their customers through the reopening of these stores as Big Lots. The retailer assumes that adding more differentiation to its merchandise mix and keeping prices low should be helpful.

Lisa Seigies further commented on customer feedback regarding the expanded inventory:

“The customer response to the newly expanded assortment of fresh inventory and great deals has been overwhelmingly positive. The Big Lots! stores opening in May show our continued commitment to providing the best value to our customers with apparel for the family, everyday needs for the home, kitchen, and pantry plus a huge selection of famous brands. I couldn’t be prouder of the dedicated team who made it possible for us to serve these communities again!” – Lisa Seigies, president and CEO of Variety Wholesalers.
