Fact Check Unveils Numerous False Claims Made by Trump

Donald Trump, the former president and current Republican candidate for the 2024 election, has lied over a thousand times. Most of these claims have been completely debunked through fact checks. This article details many of his remarks, setting the record straight and letting you know just how right or wrong he was. The lies run the gamut from pedestrian to outrageous. They range from statements regarding foreign leaders, the economy, his electoral success, and immigration—all of which are factually inaccurate.

In recent weeks, the former president has garnered considerable public attention for his intentionally misleading claims that earned Three-, Four- and even Fact-checking Police attention. His claims cover a mind-boggling range of subjects — from the price of groceries, to the number of immigrants, to trade deficits. This article examines the reality behind these assertions. All the while, Trump is working to return to the presidency and is doing so with gusto.

Misleading Claims About Economics

One of the areas where Trump has focused his rhetorical firepower on is the economy. In April, he had the audacity to declare that grocery prices “are down” and “WAY DOWN.” This claim goes against the data, which shows dramatic price surges across several food categories. Apples went up roughly 8% in the same index over the span of 2021 through 2025. This increase represents the reality of stubborn inflation rather than a return to pre-pandemic pricing.

Just as importantly, Trump touted his 2017 tax cut law as the biggest ever signed in U.S. history. When considering the share of gross domestic product, experts say it never deserved this title. They point out that it woefully misses the mark when looking at inflation-adjusted dollars. The narrative he presents about economic growth under his administration often lacks supporting evidence, as he claimed that the United States was “proportionately the wealthiest it has ever been.”

“The deal is a deal that I choose…We are a department store, and we set the price.” – Donald Trump

Moreover, Trump’s grocery price claim is undermined by his claim on the U.S. deficit with China. Yet, contrary to what his administration had been saying, he said the deficit was only $295 billion. In fact, the combined goods and services trade total for 2024 already exceeds $918 billion, a far cry from that.

Immigration and Electoral Misstatements

Furthermore, many of Trump’s comments related to immigration have been shocking. He was wrong when he claimed the U.S. was the world’s lowest illegal immigration; that too was incorrect. This letter was released as he left office in January 2021. But newly released data from the Biden administration has unveiled a sobering truth. By December 2024, there were more than 11 million total nationwide encounters with migrants.

His own disinformation on having won youth voters by 36 points in the 2024 election. There’s no reputable polling data backing up that claim. His story about electoral fraud keeps shifting. He further purports that his 2024 vote total is “really a lot more than” has been published, alleging without any evidence that it was due to cheating.

“Not a person left…not a person left.” – Donald Trump

False accusations against immigrants and weaponizations of electoral integrity swamp the dialogue. This nearly daily dribble of disinformation creates a toxic environment undercutting policies enacted to support public interest.

Trade and International Relations Misrepresentations

Trump’s statements on trade policy have been subjected to a healthy amount of derision, as well. He misleadingly asserted that Canada imposes low tariffs solely on the first small carton of milk exported from the U.S., while claiming subsequent shipments face tariffs “up to 275, 300%.” This inaccurate description fails to acknowledge that the real dartboard tariffs on dairy products.

Sadly, Trump’s confusing comments on trade deficits mislead the public. He had made statements in the past that America was losing “$2 trillion a year on trade.” This number has no basis in fact and is directly disproven by real trade statistics. In 2024, our total goods trade deficit hit an embarrassing almost $1.2 trillion. This shocking number underscores a key difference between what Trump has been telling Americans.
