Ecuador’s Government Issues Warning Over Alleged Assassination Plot Against President Noboa

Ecuador’s Ministry of Government has been the latest to raise alarms about an alleged assassination plot against President Daniel Noboa. Titled “The revenge of the bad losers,” the statement reflects escalating concerns about threats from criminal organizations in collaboration with political factions defeated in the recent April 13 elections. Sadly, a recent fatality has prompted this guidance. More than a dozen victims in the very violent massacre were present during an illegal cockfighting match that took place in the coastal province of Manabi.

During the attack, gunmen in mock military uniforms shot at people fleeing the carnage, a shocking escalation. This attack further highlights the deeply troubling trend of escalating violence in Ecuador. In light of these threats, the federal government has deployed every layer of security. They claim that thanks to their work, the state is now on red alert.

“The state is on high alert. All security protocols have been activated, and the Armed Forces, the National Police, and intelligence agencies are working together,” – Intelligence sources.

Surrounding those details, the Ministry’s statement inadvertently exposes a deeper implication identifying the Citizen Revolution Movement (RC5) as the likely assassins behind the assassination plot. This political movement is closely associated with former president Rafael Correa. Under the leadership of Luisa Gonzalez, the RC5 seems to have a hand in the ongoing attempts to destabilize President Noboa’s nascent administration. According to intelligence reports, individuals hired by these factions have allegedly enlisted hitmen from Mexico and other countries to carry out “terrorist attacks” against the president.

The leaked military intelligence report from earlier this week laid our worst fears to rest. Assassins have seeped into Ecuador to carry out murderous and terroristic agendas. It described these operatives as engaged in “the plotting of an assassination, terrorist attacks, and street riots through violent demonstrations.”

Violence has rumbled through the current political climate in Ecuador. This upheaval worsened following the murder of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio in mid-2023. Like all attempts to harm, jail, or otherwise alter the lives of their enemies, such events have sparked an epidemic fear among public figures and interest groups alike.

Things heated up when Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum announced her country wouldn’t re-establish relations with Ecuador. This excellent decision holds as long as President Noboa remains in office. This statement recently released by indigenous leaders of Ecuador highlights the international implications of the political crisis gripping Ecuador today.
