Onya Nurve Crowned Winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17 with a Message of Passion and Forgiveness

Onya Nurve, a talented queen hailing from Cleveland, has been crowned the winner of Season 17 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. With a stunning four-win streak throughout the season, Onya’s performance has captivated both judges and fans alike, solidifying her position in the competitive landscape of drag. RuPaul himself awarded the crown to her, judging her excellence of craft, showmanship and charisma.

Onya’s name might appear to be a cheeky Australian potshot at first, but there’s a bit more to it. The Drag Race fandom will soon come to understand the reverence it deserves. She has been killing it ever since, all course long on the program. Her technical proficiency and creative expression have thrilled listeners and she’s made a real connection with fans. Beyond the glitter and glam, Onya carries a message that transcends the stage:

“Find the one thing you love to do, and do that!” – Onya

This mantra perfectly sums up Ferreira’s approach to life and art. It captures her faith in inspiration and hard work, inspiring everyone to do what they love with all their heart.

Even so, despite her win today, Onya lost the fight much of the season. She admitted to feeling underestimated since day one, but she used that doubt as motivation to prove her critics wrong. In another showstopping moment of character development, Onya decided to forgive her competition Arrietty following their season-long feud. She never received the opportunity to tell Arrietty this face-to-face— even after she forgives her.

As she casts her eyes on the future, Onya has lofty aspirations. She said that she wants to host Saturday Night Live and explore theater acting and movies. One of her dreams is to star in a film with Eddie Murphy. She was unflinchingly honest when she credited her inspiration of Viola Davis. She’s especially inspired by Davis’s work as Rose in the powerful play Fences.

Onya’s connection to Fences runs deep. The play is arguably her favorite, and she channels the spirit and determination of its title character, Rose. Onya has a profound respect for Davis’s work. That admiration and respect drives her pursuit of impactful roles that push her as a performer, not the easy route to superstardom.

As she dives into this new chapter after Drag Race, Onya hopes to continue challenging boundaries and making waves in the industry. Her story is a beacon of hope for all those who have ever been underestimated or left behind on their path to something greater. She’s still out there inspiring the world to be real, be who you are, and engage in what you love.
