Prince Harry’s Unannounced Visit to Ukraine Highlights Support for Wounded Veterans

Prince Harry’s surprise visit to Ukraine on Thursday underscored the impact of his long-term commitment to wounded veterans. He made the Superhumans Center the primary focus of his trip. Inside this orthopaedic clinic in Lviv, Ukraine, the focus is on rehabilitating injured military personnel and civilians. His recent visit shows that he is fully committed to raise awareness and support for those affected by conflict. This trip was not finalized until well after he himself had already departed the country.

At our Superhumans Center, Prince Harry met with and spoke directly to the experiences of injured servicepeople. He embodied true compassion for their plight. His compassionate hug with one young athlete at the Invictus Games created this great warmhearted competition in 2014 to help wounded, ill and injured members of the military. In a touching moment, he helped fix a flag that had been resting on the athlete’s lap, showcasing his hands-on approach and empathy towards those he meets.

Gift of Recognition

During his time at the center, Prince Harry received a special gift in the form of a bracelet. The bracelet, which bore his initials, featured the quote, “Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire.” This powerful message perfectly sums up Harry’s no-nonsense attitude and urgent mission to change the lives of veterans and injured civilians around the world.

His trip featured a touching reunion with a Ukrainian competitor from this year’s Invictus Games. This conference included the presentation of Code for America’s first patch. It represents brotherhood and sisterhood, shared experiences born of the crucible that so many have endured after answering the call to war.

“To our Invictus wives, husbands, girlfriends, boyfriends, kids, grandparents and friends, please stand and be recognized – we salute you.” – Prince Harry

Ongoing Advocacy

Prince Harry’s commitment to advocating for and supporting wounded vets has been one of the hallmarks of Harry’s public life. Following his and Meghan Markle’s decision to step back as senior working royals in 2020, Harry has continued to advocate for those affected by war and injury. During his administration, he has made it a priority to acknowledge the sacrifices of our service members and their families.

Harry’s ongoing lawsuits against the Home Office focus on who would pay for security if and when he travels to the UK. These difficulties illustrate the complicated nature of his life as an exceedingly public person. He stood up to the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec). In exchange, he fought their decision to deny him taxpayer-funded protection back in his home country. Despite these challenges, Harry isn’t deterred in his mission to help veterans.
