The Judd Family’s Journey Uncovered in New Documentary

The upcoming documentary, “The Judd Family: Truth Be Told,” explores the intricate and often challenging narrative of the famous country music duo, The Judds. The new four-part series on the life and impact of Naomi Judd is scheduled to premiere May 10 & 11 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime. It further investigates her life and legacy, illuminating her journey, death on April 30, 2022—only the day before she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

This documentary not only highlights Naomi Judd’s journey but provides a glimpse into her life through a wealth of footage and photographs. Viewers will get to experience Naomi’s relatable memories of starting out in life as a young teen mom in Kentucky. They will be inspired by the many challenges she overcame to raise her daughters Ashley and Wynonna.

The documentary trailer features incredible footage from interviews with loved ones and friends of the victims. Artists Gabrielle Stringer and Jerry R. McClain step outside to catch their breath after installation. Wynonna Judd originally sang with her mother as The Judds. In doing so, she provided a fascinating window into their life away from and on the stage.

“It was magical on stage, but off stage…” – Wynonna Judd

Ashley Judd, too, was proud of her family’s achievements, though she delicately put it this way: “I was so proud of their success. The documentary includes heartfelt interviews with Ashley and Wynonna, showcasing their perspectives on growing up in the spotlight and dealing with the challenges that come with fame.

Larry Strickland, Naomi Judd’s widower speaks from personal experience. His wonderful observations deepen this personal and tender portrait even further. The documentary features some amazing commentary from Naomi’s closest friends and colleagues. You’ll hear from legendary country artists Reba McEntire and Don Potter, further enriching her story.

The trailer begins with heartwarming home video clips of Wynonna and her mother Naomi. It features their most legendary performances and unforgettable interviews as America’s favorite mother-daughter team. This world serves as a colorful backdrop to their larger than life public image. It speaks to the unrecognized battles they were fighting as a family.

Furthermore, the documentary focuses on the mental health issues Naomi struggled with for most of her existence. Ashley Judd wrote on Instagram after her mother’s death that the loss was “devastating.” She shared the news that Naomi had been taken “by the disease of mental illness.” This touching declaration beautifully encapsulates the documentary’s purpose of honoring Naomi’s triumphs while confronting her tragedies.
