Prince Charles of Luxembourg Makes Royal Debut at School Inauguration

Prince Charles of Luxembourg, age 4, made his first official regal appearance to inaugurate the “Prënz Charles School” in Steinsel. He was accompanied by his father, Hereditary Duke Guillaume and mother, Hereditary Duchess Stéphanie. The little prince born in 2020 is supposed to be the heir to the throne. He stole the show at the highly charged event.

Prince Charles was casually yet stylishly outfitted in a maroon sweater and tan slacks. In true king style, he wielded oversized scissors to cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony. The occasion proved to be something of a watershed moment for Prince Charles. His family as well is preparing for upcoming transitions at the head of their own branch of the Grand Ducal family.

Today, the Prince Charles School pays tribute to Prince Charles and stands confidently on a location full of tradition. This complex has profound personal significance to the Grand-Ducal family. The place now called ‘Prince Guillaume’ is constructed in memory of Charles’s father. In this way, this name was a testament of the family’s experience in Steinsel from 1981 to 1987.

During the event, Charles accompanied his parents on a tour of the facilities, displaying particular interest in a painting of a train on the wall. The young prince’s enthusiasm injected a personal flair into the proceedings, charming those assembled and endearing him to them further.

"The Crown Grand Duke, the Crown Grand Duchess, and Prince Charles inaugurated, this Thursday, the 'Prënz Charles School' (Prince Charles School) in Steinsel, in the presence of Minister Claude Meisch and Mayor Fernand Marchetti." – Grand Ducal social media accounts

This visit coincides with Hereditary Duke Guillaume’s transition into a larger role as he gradually assumes responsibility. Grand Duke Henri is set to abdicate in October 2025. Consequently, Guillaume will exercise the full range of his constitutional prerogatives as Lieutenant-Representative.

"I really want to give Prince Guillaume a lot more responsibility, because I think I really need to slow down." – Grand Duke Henri

The royal family has previously united for low-key birthdays celebrations. In particular, they joyously marked the birth and christening of Prince François, Charles’s younger brother. These visits have slowly introduced the public to the future king.
