The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating an incident involving an unruly passenger on a Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles. The incident occurred on Monday, with reports that the passenger allegedly attacked several people onboard. The situation escalated to the point where the passenger had to be restrained after biting one individual and hitting others.
The unruly passenger was taken to the hospital via ambulance for a psychological evaluation. The Transportation Security Administration reported the incident, and the Los Angeles Fire Department provided assistance. Delta Air Lines has expressed a zero-tolerance policy towards such behavior.

This incident is part of a troubling trend in unruly passenger behavior that peaked during the pandemic. In 2021, nearly 6,000 incidents were recorded, marking a record high. The FAA logged over 2,100 reports of similar behavior in 2024, and more than 300 incidents have already been reported this year.
The FAA has the authority to propose civil penalties of up to $37,000 per violation for unruly behavior. This serves as a deterrent to prevent further disruptions in air travel.
“The FAA pursues legal enforcement action against any passenger who assaults, threatens, intimidates, or interferes with airline crewmembers, and can propose civil penalties up to $37,000 per violation,” – FAA
Delta Air Lines has stated its commitment to working with law enforcement authorities to address the incident. The airline emphasizes the safety and security of its passengers and crew as its top priority.
