Moosehead Breweries has introduced a colossal crate of 1,461 cans of lager, aptly named the "Presidential Pack," designed to help Canadians endure the next four years amidst political and economic challenges. Available exclusively through Moosehead's website, this pack caters to residents in Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. Priced at approximately $3,500 CAD ($2,400 USD), including delivery, the offering aims to provide one beer a day over the span of four years.
This initiative comes as a response to the ongoing trade war between the United States and Canada, which has resulted in tariffs on Canadian products, including beer. The 10% tariffs imposed on aluminum lids will directly impact Moosehead's production costs. Additionally, about 20% of Moosehead's beer exports to the U.S. face potential tariff threats, further complicating the brewery's operations.
Moosehead CEO Andrew Oland expressed his discontent with the impending tariffs threatened by former President Trump. He described the situation as "such a disappointment" and lamented that he is "really sad to see this relationship going in a different direction." The introduction of the "Presidential Pack" is Moosehead's way of tapping into the "Buy Canadian" sentiment, showcasing patriotism and support for Canadian consumers during uncertain times.
Karen Grigg, director of marketing for Moosehead, emphasized the significance of the pack in navigating political uncertainty.
“If the start of 2025 has taught us anything, it’s that it will take determination to weather four years of political uncertainty—and what better way to make it through each day than with a truly Canadian beer,” said Grigg.
She further highlighted the practicality of the product amid unpredictable circumstances.
“While we can’t predict how the next four years will go, we have a feeling that this large pack will come in handy,” she added.
Founded in 1867, Moosehead is Canada's oldest brewery. The company aims to leverage its heritage and national pride through this unique offering. By encouraging Canadians to enjoy a local brew daily, Moosehead not only supports national interests but also reinforces its brand identity amid global trade tensions.
The introduction of the "Presidential Pack" is more than just a marketing strategy; it represents Moosehead’s commitment to its consumers and its adaptive approach in challenging times. It is a testament to the brewery's resilience and ingenuity as it navigates complex international trade dynamics.
