Success and Anxieties: Adam Scott’s Journey with “Severance”

Adam Scott, known for his role in the acclaimed series "Severance," has opened up about the anxieties he faced leading up to the show's release. As the leading man, Scott portrayed Mark Scout, who leads a team at the enigmatic Lumon Industries. In this dystopian narrative, employees undergo a controversial procedure that divides their memories between work and personal lives. Despite the show's success, Scott initially grappled with concerns over how audiences would perceive its unique concept.

Scott's apprehension stemmed from the uncertainty of audience reactions.

"Just because, at that point, we made the show in a bubble, and no one had seen it, and we loved it, but had no clue if anyone would like it or if people would just make fun of us," – Adam Scott

His own expectations served as a barometer for potential reception, heightening his anxiety about the show's debut.

"you just don't know at all, other than your own barometer, and we thought it was cool. But, man, you just have zero sense of how it's gonna be received, so it could have been this big, embarrassing thing." – Adam Scott

Despite his nerves, Scott found support in series director and executive producer Ben Stiller. Stiller's guidance helped Scott view the situation from a different perspective, calming his anxieties.

"Ben sort of talked me down because he's certainly been through it," – Adam Scott

Scott's previous experience as part of an ensemble cast in "Parks and Recreation" felt more comfortable to him compared to leading "Severance."

"'Comforting' is a perfect word for it. And it's part of why I was so freaked out when Severance first came out a few years ago," – Adam Scott

The success of "Severance" on Apple TV+ has been monumental, garnering 14 nominations at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards and securing its renewal for a second season. This next chapter promises to introduce new talents such as Sarah Bock, Alia Shawkat, and Gwendoline Christie. For Scott, who has spent 30 years in Hollywood, "Severance" represents a significant career milestone. Despite initial fears, he ultimately found the experience rewarding and valuable.
