Jalen Hurts: A Gridiron Star with a Heart for Community

Jalen Hurts
, the 26-year-old quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, is much more than just a football player. Since being drafted by the Eagles in 2020, Hurts has become known for his dedication both on and off the field. His numerous community initiatives and strong family ties have further solidified his impact beyond his athletic achievements.

Hurts' passion for giving back is evident through his Jalen Hurts Foundation. This organization seeks to uplift communities and support educational initiatives. One of the foundation's significant projects is the "1 Mission" initiative, which provides school supplies and supports teachers and students in Philadelphia-area schools. In 2024, Hurts donated $200,000 to install air conditioners in local schools, ensuring students' comfort during warmer months. Additionally, he connected with Philadelphia elementary students by delivering an inspiring message on "Good Morning America" in 2023.

"I have a foundation kind of set for myself, but my parents did that for me," said Jalen Hurts.

Hurts' dedication to football traces back to his family roots. His father, Averion Hurts, Sr., played a crucial role in fostering his passion for the sport. As a coach himself, Averion instilled strong values and a deep understanding of the game in his son.

"I think being a coach's kid, they created habits for me to see things a certain way, have the wisdom that I have, and I give all the credit to them," Hurts remarked.

Hurts' family is equally accomplished in athletics. His older brother, Averion Hurts, Jr., was a quarterback at Texas Southern University. Meanwhile, his younger sister, Kynnedy Hurts, showcased her talents on the volleyball court at Channelview High School. These familial connections underscore the supportive environment that has been pivotal in Jalen's journey.

"It's humbling as a parent, as a coach, but it's a great opportunity for him and his teammates," expressed Averion Hurts, Sr.

In addition to his professional and philanthropic endeavors, Hurts has recently embarked on a personal milestone. He became engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Bryonna "Bry" Burrows, in September 2024. The couple shared their joyous news with Essence magazine.

"I knew a long time ago. To this point in my life, that's an irreplaceable feeling. I think that's what allowed us to get to where we are now," Hurts told the publication.

Hurts also shares his expertise as a coach at Baytown High School in Texas, nurturing the next generation of athletes. His commitment to mentoring young players mirrors his dedication to achieving success on the field. Having played in two Super Bowls, he remains determined to bring a championship victory to Philadelphia.
