Southwestern Public Health has raised an alert concerning a potential measles exposure at Tillsonburg Memorial Hospital. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 14, between 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the hospital's emergency department. Authorities are urging individuals who were present during this time and are not up to date with their vaccinations to contact public health at 1-800-922-0096.
Dr. Joyce Lock, the acting medical officer of health, is spearheading efforts to inform all known contacts about the potential exposure. The health department is diligently collaborating with Tillsonburg Memorial Hospital to ensure that everyone who might have been affected is promptly notified. Dr. Lock emphasized the importance of reaching out to individuals who visited the emergency department during the specified timeframe.
"We are working quite closely with this healthcare setting to inform all known contacts," Dr. Joyce Lock, acting medical officer of health.
The alert primarily targets individuals who may have visited the emergency department briefly or those who might not be directly reachable by the hospital’s regular communication channels. Southwestern Public Health stresses that notifying potentially exposed individuals as swiftly as possible is a top priority.
"This message is really intended for people who were at this location that we cannot reach, such as people who visited even briefly during these timeframes. It is our responsibility to inform anyone as quickly as possible if they have been exposed to this virus," Dr. Joyce Lock stated.
The community is advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions in light of this potential measles exposure. Public health officials are actively advising those who are not current with their vaccinations to take immediate action by contacting the provided public health number.
