Honda has officially revealed its latest electric vehicle lineup, the Honda 0 Saloon and the Honda 0 SUV, during the CES tech conference in Las Vegas. This announcement marks a significant step in the company's commitment to electric mobility, as the new models are set to be produced at a multibillion-dollar manufacturing complex in central Ohio.
The Honda 0 Series vehicles are designed with three guiding principles: "Thin, light, and wise." Their exteriors showcase a departure from Honda's traditional aesthetic, featuring sleek and futuristic designs that aim to capture the attention of modern consumers. As prototypes, these vehicles are intended for customer production, though Honda has indicated that some modifications may still occur before the final versions are launched.
In preparation for these new models, Honda utilized feedback from their previous EV offerings revealed last year. Lance Woelfer, vice president of American Honda Motor automobile sales, noted, "That's the reason we do it, is it gives us an opportunity to get some input and feedback from the community." This approach reflects Honda's commitment to understanding consumer preferences and enhancing its product lineup accordingly.
The company also announced that the AFEELA 1 sedan will be available in two trims, with prices starting at $89,900. Following the unveiling of the 0 Series EVs, it was mentioned that the AFEELA 1 is expected to hit the market in California this year, with deliveries anticipated by 2026. Production models based on the prototypes are projected to be launched in North America in 2026, beginning with the SUV and subsequently releasing the Saloon.
Honda is integrating advanced automation technologies into the 0 Series vehicles, including hands-free driving capabilities. Additionally, the new operating system for these EVs will be known as "Asimo OS," a name inspired by Honda's humanoid robot that debuted over two decades ago at CES. This innovative operating system aims to enhance user experience and vehicle performance.
The collaboration between Honda and Sony, which resulted in the AFEELA brand, further emphasizes Honda's commitment to innovation in electric mobility. The strategic partnership is expected to foster advancements in technology and design for future vehicle models.
