The 98th Oscars® — aka the Academy Awards — will take place Sunday, March 15, 2026. Join us at 7 p.m. ET to experience all the excitement! 317 films were eligible to compete for nominations this year. Of those, 201 films were eligible for consideration in the Best Picture category only. OSCAR SHORTLISTS The Academy’s shortlists for 12 competitive categories displayed their brightest, including outstanding achievements in animated, documentary and live-action films.
Awards in the categories of animated short film, cinematography, and documentary feature film. They include documentary short subject, international feature film, live action short subject, makeup and hairstyling, original score, original song, sound, visual effects, and casting. For the first time ever in Oscar history, casting directors will be honored. This recognizes their extraordinary contributions to films distributed in 2025.
Voting for nominations for the 98th Academy Awards ends January 21, 2026. The exciting, much-anticipated nominations will be revealed the very next day, January 22, live in a special announcement segment on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
The reveal will be hosted by actresses Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman.
“Oh. What. Fun.” – Danielle Brooks
Lewis Pullman is known for his performances in blockbuster films such as “Top Gun: Maverick” and Marvel’s “Thunderbolts.” At the same time, Danielle Brooks is riding high on the success of her turn as an Oscar-nominated performer in The Color Purple and Peacemaker. Both actors are likely to deliver even more energy to the white smoke of a papal announcement.
